China Manuscript received 12 January 2001, revised 24 July 2001, accepted 6 August 2001 Four phenolic compounds (+)-catechin (1), (-)-epicatechin (2), 2,4,6-trimethoxyphenol-l-Ο-β-D-glucopyranoside (3), 3β,7,3'- trihydroxy- 4'-methoxyflavan-l-Ο-β-D-glucopyranoside (4) together with dulcitol (5) have been isolated from the ethanol extracts of the root bark of Celastrus angulatus. Among them, compound 4 is a new methyl derivative of tlavan-3-olglycoside. Compound 3 is first isolated as a new natural product.
