Department of Studies in Chemistry, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri-574 199, India E-mail : nbadiadka@yahoo.co.uk Fax : 91-824-287367 Manuscript received 11 July 2001, revised 22 January 2002, accepted 16 March 2002 A rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of PtIV with anthranilic acid is described. Anthranilic acid reacts with PtIV at pH 3.0 to give a pink coloured complex, which shows λmax at 372 nm. Sandell's sensitivity and molar absorptivity of the complex are 5.6 X 10-3 µg cm-2 and 3.41 x 104 dm3 mol-1 cm-1, respectively. The effect of foreign ion and other experimental variables are studied. PtIV has been successfully determined in synthetic solutions.
