Department of Chemistry, University of Allahabad, Allahabad-21 1 002, India E-mail : singhvandanasingh@rediffmail.com Manuscript received 30 May 2001. revised 12 November 2001, accepted 21 March 2002 Ethyl 4-ethoxycarbonylinethyl-3,5-dimethylpyrrole-2-carboxylate (1) has been synthesized by extension and modification of Knorr pyrrole synthesis. Its acetoxymethyl derivative (2) has also been synthesized. Diethyl 3,3'-bis(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)-4,4'-dimethyl��2,2'-dipyrrylmethane-5,51-dicarboxylate has been synthesized by self-condensation of 2.
