Gour University, Sagar 470 003, Madhya Pradesh, India E-mail : rnyadava@rediffmail.com Manuscript received 25 August 2005, revised 19 June 2006, accepted 25 August 2006 A new flavone glycoside A, m.p. 248-251 ºC, C33H40O2, [M]+ 756 (FABMS) has been isolated from methanol soluble fraction of defatted seeds of Cassia sophera Linn. alongwith a known compound B, 5-hydroxy-7,4',5' trimethoxyisoflavone- 3' -O-β-D-glucopyranoside. Compound A was characterized as, 5, 7 ,3' ,4' -tetrahydroxy- 3-methoxy flavone- 5-O-α.-L-rhamnopyranosyl-7-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→3)-O-β-D-xylopyranoside by various colour reactions, chemical degradations and spectral analysis.
