Department of Industrial Chemistry, Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamuna Nagar-135 001, India Department of Chemistry, N. A. S. College, Meerut, India Manuscript received 1 October 2002, accepted 16 July 2003 Molyhdenum(V), obtained from molyhdenum(VI) by reduction in presence of ascorbic acid, has been determined spectrophotometrically. Mov formed an intense yellow colour with 6-chloro-3-hydroxy-2-(2' -theinyl)-4H-chromen-4-one (CHTC) in sulphuric acid medium which showed an absorption maximum at 424 nm. This method was found to be rapid, more sensitive than other methods and free from several common interferences including vanadium and tungsten.
