Anhelos urbanos en la provincia mexicana: el proyecto de la ciudad jard��n y la ciudad escolar de Xalapa, 1925

Abstract

El presente art��culo busc�� el rescate y an��lisis hist��rico del proyecto de la Ciudad Jard��n y la Ciudad Escolar de 1925 para la capital veracruzana de Xalapa, cuya construcci��n fue parcial y dentro de la coyuntura nacional posrevolucionaria mexicana, e internacional, de las entreguerras y previa a la crisis econ��mica de 1929. La intenci��n fue comprobar que el proyecto urbano sirvi�� como: 1) reflejo del anhelo modernizador de una parte de la ��lite pol��tica de una ciudad media mexicana y, 2) represent�� el discurso social y pol��tico del entonces gobernador del estado de Veracruz, Heriberto Jara Corona (1924-1927), al adaptar el modelo de Ebenezer Howard a las caracter��sticas f��sicas del lugar. El objetivo de este trabajo fue realzar el valor del proyecto urbano como documento representativo de una realidad cultural, social y pol��tica a trav��s del estudio hist��rico integral, tomando como base la idea generatriz de la ciudad jard��n, las caracter��sticas urbanas de la capital, su poblaci��n y territorio, y las cualidades y problem��ticas pol��ticas del gobierno de Heriberto Jara Corona.
