Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of the wind regime of the Antarctic Peninsula. As the material of the study we used monthly mean values of surface wind speed for 11 stations in the Antarctic continent. A study of surface wind speed in the vicinity of the Antarctic Peninsula indicates the presence of certain changes in the wind regime of the region, namely the strengthening of the role of cyclones in the North–Western trajectories in summer and decrease in winter. Over the last thirty years recorded a steady downward trend in surface wind speed for most months of the year, which may indicate a violation of the stability of the wind regime of the Antarctic Peninsula and the weakening of the role of the East–Pacific branch and South American branches of the movement of cyclones, which are associated with significant wind speed.
