Dicranophora Macquart

Abstract

Key to species of Dicranophora Macquart 1. Scutellum with scutellar process (main branch + fork)........................................................ 2 - Scutellum without scutellar process.................................................. D. bispinosa (Wiedemann) 2. Scutellar process length less than half of the abdomen length.................................................. 3 - Scutellar process almost the same length or longer than the abdomen............................................. 4 3. Scutellar process virtually the same length as scutellum with a small convergent fork (approximately half of the process). Mid femur with a dentate process on basal third, positioned proximally on the ventral surface and preceded by a series of irregular denticles.............................................................................. D. astuta Williston - Scutellar process longer than scutellum (approximately 2.5x) with a large convergent fork (approximately two thirds of the process). Mid femur with a dentate process on apical third, positioned on the ventral surface, without additional denticles......................................................................................... D. picta Macquart 4. Scutellar process as long as or longer than abdomen length with a small and inconspicuous divergent fork (approximately 14x smaller than main branch). Mid femur with two dentate processes, the first at the middle third and the second at the apical third, both positioned ventrally and preceded by a series of irregular denticles................. D. furcifera (Wiedemann) - Scutellar process slightly shorter than the abdomen length with a large V-shaped fork (longer than main branch). Mid femur with a large thorn on the lower half preceded by a series of irregular denticles................ D. femurspiculata sp. nov.
