Abdul Hakeem College, Melvisharam-632 509, Tamilnadu, India E-mail : smansoors2000@yahoo.co.in Manuscript received online 19 July 2014, revised 24 August 2014, accepted 04 September 2014 An efficient synthesis of 2,3-dihydro-2-phenylquinazolin-4(1H)-ones have been developed via one-pot reaction from arylaldehydes and 2-aminobenzamide catalyzed by phospho sulfonic acid (PSA) in aqueous ethanol medium. The present methodology offers several advantages, such as simple procedure with an easy work-up, high yields and short reaction times. Moreover, the catalyst can be easily recovered and reused at least four times with only slight reduction in its catalytic activity.
