Abstract

Tetrix transsylvanica hypsocorypha Skejo, 2014 subspecies nova (Map Fig 3., type label Fig. 6, morphology Figs. 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16) Subspecies diagnosis (female). Median carina of vertex very high (0.9–1.8 mm) (Fig. 8) and continuos. Vertex very prominent, especially median carina (Fig. 10). Compound eye rounded. Tegmenula rhomboid in shape and without concave dorsal apical margin (Figs. 12, 13, 14). Ratio length: maximum height of tegmina 1.5. Ratio hind femur length: maximum width 2.5 (Fig. 5). Dorsal ovipositor valvae 2x wider than ventral valvae. Dorsal valvae have stronger teeth than in nominal subspecies. Third tooth observed from ovipositor apex is strong and almost as long as apical tooth. Teeth gradually enlarged from basis to apex. Ovipositor very robust in general appearance (Figs. 12, 16). Diagnosis subspeciei (femina). Carina mediana verticis altissima (0.9–1.8 mm) (Figura 8), continua. Vertex prominens, crista maxime mediana (Figura 10). Oculus compositus rotundus. Tegmenula rhomboidea, sine concava margine dorsali apicali (Figurae 12 et 13 et 14). Ratio longitudinis et altitudinis maximae 1.5 est. Ratio longitudinis et amplitudinis maximae femoralis posterioris 2.5 est (Figura 5). Valvae dorsales ovipositoris bis latiores valvis dorsalibus. Valvis dorsalibus dentes fortiores subspecie nominali sunt. Dens tetrius apice robustus fereque longis sicut dens apicalis. Dentes ovipositoris augent paulatim a basi ad apicem. Ovipositor robustus (Figurae 12 et 16). Description. See table 2. (Croatian specimens). Type material. Holotype 1♀ 0 3.1945., paratype 1♀ 0 4.1943., all leg. Imre von Igálffy, det. J. Skejo, deposited in Croatian Natural History Museum, Orthoptera Collection (currently without inventory number). Locus typicus: Vicinity of Gornja Pačetina (46°06′47″ N; 15°52′34″ E) in Hrvatsko Zagorje (N Croatia) about 200 m a.s.l. (170–200 m). Measurements: Body length (from vertex to the end of pronotum) 14.1–15.2 mm, tegmenulum and ala 2.48–2.52 mm, hind femur 8.11–8.24 mm. Distribution. Two localities are currently known for the subspecies: Gornja Pačetina in Hrvatsko Zagorje (N Croatia) and Boč hill in Slovenia. Etymology. The subspecific name, hypsocorypha is derived from the Ancient Greek words ὕψος (h ýpsos) meaning high and κορυφή (koryfḗ) meaning vertex, because of the very elevated median carina of the vertex. Comments. Nadig (1991) reported this species for Slovenia, Boč hill. According to drawings of tegmenulum and ala (Fig. 14) it seems that the Slovenian population belongs to this subspecies, Tetrix transsylvanica hypsocorypha subspecies nova.
