Poecilus (Derus) advena

Abstract

Poecilus (Derus) advena (Quensel, 1806) (Fig. 6) Poecilus (Ancholeus) iranicus (Morvan, 1974) syn. n. Examined type. 1 ♂, Paratype of Pseudopedius iranicus Morvan, 1974 with labels: “Varamine / 19–28.v.1947 / Mirz” // “ Pseudopedius iranicus Morv ” // red label “ Paratype ”. HMIM. Additional examined material: Iran: 2 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀, East Azerbaijan, Moghan, 17.viii.1967, Daman leg., HMIM; 2 ♀♀, Khorasan, Sarakhs, Tajan, 250 m, 17.viii.1993, Ebra & Badii leg., HMIM. Ukraine: 1 ♂, without data. CJM. Georgia: 2 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀, Transcaucasus, Kumisi nr. Tbilisi, 3–24.vi.1987, Wrase & Schülke leg., CDW. Kazakhstan: 1 ♀, Aksai, Oblast Uralsk, 3.vii.–11.ix.1989, H. Wandsleb leg., CDW. Comparative notes. Morvan described Pseudopedius iranicus in 1974 (Fig. 6). Subsequently, Pseudopedius Seidlitz, 1887 was synonymized with Ancholeus Dejean, 1828 and P. iranicus was listed by Bousquet, 2017 as Poecilus (Ancholeus) iranicus. Morvan mentioned in the description of this species that antennomere 3 is not keeled. Species of the subgenus Ancholeus are characterized by the presence of a keel on antennomere 3, while species of the related subgenus Derus Motschulsky, 1850 are characterized by the absence of this keel. A comparison of a paratype of P. iranicus with P. (Derus) advena showed no difference between these taxa, hence P. iranicus is synonymous with P. advena. Distribution. Transcaucasia, the Southern Russian Plain, Ciscaucasia, the uplands of Armenia, the plains of Kazakhstan, and the plains of Middle Asia to the Altais-Sayan Mt. Land. (Kryzhanovskij et al. 1995). The species also occurs in Ukraine and Georgia, both countries were not mentioned in Löbl & Löbl 2017.
