Abstract

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar as representa����es sociais da mulher a partir de personagens femininos na obra A ferro e fogo I: tempo de solid��o, de Josu�� Guimar��es. Justifica-se tal investiga����o pois, a maioria dos trabalhos realizados acerca dessa obra, s��o origin��rios da ��rea da Letras e Literatura, percebendo uma lacuna ante o olhar hist��rico sobre esta. Metodologicamente utilizou-se da an��lise de discurso e conte��do, por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa e interdisciplinar, refletindo-se as categorias de estrutura familiar, representa����o da mulher, conservadorismo e submiss��o feminina presentes na narrativa. A partir dessa an��lise, observou-se que as mulheres desse per��odo, estavam inseridas em uma sociedade extremamente conservadora, a qual legitimava uma estrutura familiar baseada em posi����es e tarefas definidas para o homem e para a mulher. Desse modo, o estudo da obra, permitiu concluir que, embora inseridas nessa sociedade conservadora, o escritor Josu�� Guimar��es prop��s representar de forma diversa, as mulheres que compuseram a sociedade sulina rio-grandense, que por vezes desafiaram os regimentos do tecido social, o que �� o caso da personagem principal, a imigrante Catarina e as prostitutas de Porto Alegre. Para al��m dessas, o escritor representou as mulheres de elite, com sua submiss��o expl��cita, tamb��m as escravas, as parteiras e as ind��genas. Em s��ntese, a discuss��o e a amplia����o de estudos sobre a forma����o da sociedade sul rio-grandense, mostram-se necess��rios para a compreens��o da forma����o dessa regi��o, visto que, muitos elementos ainda se fazem presentes na atualidade do Rio Grande do Sul.
