College, Dhanuvachapuram, Thiruvananthapuram-695 503, Kerala, India E-mail : sudarsanmr@gmail.com Department of Chemistry, All Saints’ College, Thiruvananthapuram-695 007, Kerala, India Department of Chemistry, Sree Narayana College, Chempazhanthy, Thiruvananthapuram-695 587, Kerala, India Department of Applied Chemistry, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi-682 022, Kerala, India Manuscript received online 02 February 2016, accepted 04 April 2016 A novel semicarbazone, vanillin-N4-phenylsemicarbazone (NVAN) has been synthesized and characterized with the help of microanalytical, spectroscopic and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Amido form of NVAN crystallizes in triclinic space group P1 . The intermolecular hydrogen bonding and the л··л interactions resulting in a 2D network structure which stabilizes the molecule.
