Microvelia reticulata (Burmeister) Widespread, forms aggregations in lakes and ponds, and in seasonal and ephemeral water bodies, found on floating leaves of near-shore aquatic plants, and on wet soil, rocks and mosses along the shore; zoophage (preys on small aquatic insects); multivoltine; three generations annually are reported from the south of Britain (Dolling 1991); overwinters as imago. Trans-Eurasian. Velia saulii Tamanini Found in shaded, undisturbed spring-fed streams, small rivers and small lakes in both mountain and lowland forested landscapes (Kanyukova 2006), intolerant of pollution; found on top of the water surface film; zoophage (feeds on small aquatic insects); possibly univoltine; overwinters as imago (Esenbekova 2008). West Eurasian.
