The ligands on reaction with Cu(ClO4 )2 .6H2O in 2 : 1 molar ratio form CuII complexes (1-3) of general formula CuL2 . The ligands and the complexes were characte-rized by means elemental analysis, FTIR, NMR, Mass, UV-Visible spectroscopy, luminescence spectroscopy. Electrochemical study on the ligands exhibit one oxidation peak due to phenol to phenoxyl radical and one or two reduction wave/s, while the Cu complexes show CuII/III oxidation and one ligand based reduction. CuI/II oxidation is masked inside the ligand based reduction processes.
