Chinua Achebe is considered to be the best novelist even today in African literature. The subject in his novels is the tragic consequence of the African encounter with Europe. This is the main theme of his novels. His novels deal with the social and psychological conflicts created by the incursion of the Whiteman and his culture into the hitherto self-contained world of African society, and the disarray in the African consciousness. His subject also deals with individuals. Achebe’s writing always reflects three essential qualities. The first one is the influence of the colonialism at both the individual and social level. Secondary the English language is the medium. Thirdly he is not only concerned with his duties and responsibilities as a writer but to the society in which he lives. Apart from this we can also find him telling us through his writings, his intense patriotism, love for Africa and the reason why he chose English as the medium of expression. The novel Things Fall Apart shows how the skillful mastery of his craft lies in the way he portrays Nigerian local life and culture. His sincerity and felicity is seen throughout his novels
