Validation of TESS candidates orbiting Solar-analog stars

Abstract

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is focusing on relatively bright stars and is expected to find thousands of planets; however, mainly because of the low spatial resolution of its cameras (~ 21 "/pixel), it is also expected to find a large number of false positives (FPs). Some FPs are identifiable using TESS data alone, but the majority of them require mandatory vetting tests to confirm their planetary nature. Here we present a follow-up program of TESS candidates orbiting Solar-analog stars. Using Gaia photometry and astrometry we built an absolute color-magnitude diagram and isolated Solar-analog candidates' hosts. Then we performed a probabilistic validation of each candidate using the VESPA software and produced a prioritized list of objects having the highest probability of being genuine planets. By following this procedure, we eliminated the majority of false positives and statistically validated 53 candidates. For this remaining set, we are performing on-off photometry to further cull the list of candidates and prepare for the high-resolution spectroscopic follow-up. This work shall also be considered as preparatory for PLATO candidate planet vetting.
