SEDBYS: A python-based SED Builder for Young Stars

Abstract

Spectral energy distributions (SEDs) are useful primary and complementary tools in the analysis of observations of young stars. However, the process for collating, inspecting, and flux-converting archival photometry and spectroscopy to build these SEDs is time-consuming. Existing online tools are also far from complete, missing useful archival photometry published prior to the development of online catalogs or flux measurements reported in the main body of text rather than in a table, for instance. This particularly effects the collation of millimeter and radio data, as well as shorter wavelength data for photometrically variable stars. In this poster, I present SEDBYS (Spectral Energy Distribution Builder for Young Stars), an open-source, python-based repository of command-line tools built to (i) query online photometric and spectroscopic catalogs as well as a distributed database of archival photometry; (ii) flux-convert the acquired data; (iii) allow for interactive visual inspect ion of the collated SED and (iv) handle book-keeping to collate references in publication-ready bibTeX format. SEDBYS' searchable repository of published photometry and flux measurements increases the legacy value of data which do not already exist in queryable online catalogs. I further show how individual users can expand the photometry database for the benefit of the star formation community.
