Abstract

RESUMEN Tanto microorganismos como células animales se emplean para producir una amplia variedad de productos que van desde la insulina, antibióticos, polímeros y metabolitos de interés, por mencionar solo algunos. El usar microorganismos trae consigo múltiples ventajas como las condiciones de reacción, elevados rendimientos, que puedan desempeñarse como biocatalizadores, fue con la entrada de la tecnología del ADN recombinante, que se amplió el panorama de aplicaciones, ahora muchas proteínas se pueden expresar fácilmente en células huésped, tal es el caso de Escherichia coli y la levadura Saccharomyces cerevisiae que se pueden introducir en una vía metabólica completa para que se produzca un compuesto nuevo y no nativo a un nivel alto [1, 2]. Así mismo, los microorganismos que se utilizan para la producción industrial deben cumplir ciertas características para que tengan un crecimiento óptimo como lo es, que el microorganismos pueda crecer en un medio simple, sin necesidad de requerir muchos factores de crecimiento, que crezca rápidamente, pero con rendimientos adecuados y sin la producción de materiales tóxicos ni otros indeseables, presentar estabilidad genética y que sea susceptible a manipulación genética [3].
