Diversificatie van de teelt van snijmaïs door het gebruik van groenbemesters, mogelijk gemaakt door ultravroege maïsrassen

Abstract

Probleem Continue monocultuur van snijmaïs wordt geassocieerd met negatieve effecten op productieniveaus en het milieu, zoals afnemende bodemkwaliteit, druk op biodiversiteit en grondwaterkwaliteit en toenemende broeikasgasemissies (Riemens et al., 2017; Schils et al., 2019). Oplossing Om deze effecten tegen te gaan, worden in de winter groenbemesters geteeld als tussengewas tussen twee maïsteelten in. Het gebruik van zeer vroege maïsrassen zorgt ervoor dat deze groenbemesters meer tijd hebben om te groeien en vergroot hun positieve effecten op bijvoorbeeld de bodemkwaliteit.
