Abstract

Propsephus molardi Girard, 1991 Propsephus molardi Girard, 1991a: 347. Holotype ♁ de la Guinée (MNHNP). Iconographie: Girard 1991a: 348, 351, 353. 7 individus: Lamotte, 1942; Bigot, Roy et Vuattoux, 1962; Girard, 1983. MATÉRIEL EXAMINÉ. — Nimba: Nzo, Nion, forêt, II-VI.1942; mont Richard-Molard vers 1750 mètres d’altitude, sur les herbes, prairie d’altitude, 30.III.1962. ÉCOLOGIE. — Ce Propsephus est originaire des monts Nimba; un exemplaire, non cité dans la publication que j’ai consacrée aux Élatérides des milieux herbacés (Girard 1991), a été retrouvé dans du matériel entomologique dont l’étude avait été négligée. Cet échantillon a été capturé dans la prairie d’altitude, sur le mont Pierré Richaud, vers 1400 mètres. Depuis, malgré les recherches qui ont été effectuées sur le massif, il n’ a pas été repris. Ce Propsephus a été trouvé dans des milieux très différents, notamment dans la partie la plus haute de la montagne, sur le mont Richard-Molard, vers 1750 mètres d’altitude, mais aussi dans la zone planitiaire du massif. C’est probablement une espèce sylvicole qui pénètre occasionnellemnt en savane et qui a été entraînée vers les plus hautes altitudes par les vents très violents qui s’observent à certaines périodes de l’année.
