Opinion: What Makes a Great Developer?

Abstract

This question has come up over and over again. From putting together the core team for a startup company to recruiting intern candidates for a multi-million dollar firm, patterns emerge and recurring data points are evident once you look closely enough. Let’s take a look at the Top 10 characteristics of a great software engineer. Sure, top notch technical chops are a prerequisite, but beware, some of these items may surprise you.
