Melomystrongylus Smales 2009, new genus

Abstract

Melomystrongylus, new genus Diagnosis. – Trichostrongyloidea: Heligmonellidae: Nippostrongylinae. Synlophe well developed with pointed ridges; in midbody axis of orientation of ridges passing through ventral right and dorsal left sides inclined about 65° from sagittal axis in anterior body, lacking clear orientation in mid and hind body. Ventral ridge 5’ hypertrophied anteriorly. Bursa asymmetrical with larger left lobe. Dorsal ray divided distal to level of branching of rays 8 from dorsal trunk. Parasites of hydromyine murids. Type species. – Melomystrongylus sepikensis, new species.
