Oryctes corniculatus A. Villa & G. B. Villa 1833

Abstract

Oryctes corniculatus A. Villa & G. B. Villa, 1833 Oryctes corniculatus A. Villa & G. B. Villa, 1833: 34. Two syntypes are deposited in NMPC (ex coll. Nickerl): SYNTYPE (J): ‘ Oryctes corniculatus Villa typ, Mediolani 1837 [hw]’. SYNTYPE (♀): ‘ Oryctes corniculatus Med. Villa [hw, white label, red margin] // Villa typ Mediolan [hw, white label, black margin] // O. corniculatus 1837 Villa typ [hw]’. Current status. Oryctes nasicornis corniculatus A. Villa & G. B. Villa, 1833, see, KRELL (2002). Remark. A major part of A. Villa’s collection is in bad condition and deposited in Museo Civico di Storia Naturale Milano (HORN et al. 1990). Unfortunately, we were not able to compare our specimens with that material. As we have no reason to doubt Nickerls’ designation, we consider the specimens mentioned above to be true syntypes. The date ‘1837’ refers, according to us, to the year when the specimens were incorporated into Nickerl’s collection rather than to the date of collecting.
