Hedwigiella cbellamyi Hespenheide, new species (Figs. 5, 9) Description. Holotype male. Ovate, 1.5X longer than wide, narrower behind than in front, moderately shiny; scutellum glabrous, front and beneath inconspicuously, sparsely setose, pronotum and elytra densely but irregularly setose, pronotum densely setose at margins, sparsely so at middle 1/3, elytra densely setose but with small glabrous spots at margins exterior to humeri, just beyond middle, and anterior to apices, and with transverse narrowly oval spot along suture behind scutellum and larger triangular but irregular area behind middle extending almost to apices; some areas of setae with more or less dense white waxy efflorescence, especially at margins of pronotum and marginal depressions of elytra posterior to humeri; head with coppery reflections, scutellum and elytra with greenish reflections; length 3.00 mm, width 2.00 mm. (Fig. 9). Head: Width 1.1 mm, with broad, deep medial depression, deeper in small area at middle; surface smooth on dorsal 1/2, somewhat shagreened on lower 1/2; epistomal area broad, deeply emarginate but not carinate along base, antennae inserted on outer margins of antennal cavities just interior to inner margins of eyes, pore in antennal cavity slightly above and interior to antennal insertion, at inner margin of eye, and directly above antennal insertion. Pronotum: Very shallowly convex in cross-section, 4X as wide as long at middle, 1/4 narrower at apex than at base, and widest at base; sides nearly parallel from base to middle, then narrowing to apical angles which are nearly quadrate; anterior margin shallowly, regularly emarginate; base broadly rounded backward to elytral lobe where it is narrowly emarginate, then nearly transverse anterior to scutellum; posterior angles broadly obtuse, subequal to humeral angles of elytra; weak short, arcuate prehumeral carinae; surface very shallowly depressed along sides and basal 1/3, disk smooth in glabrous areas, very finely reticulate beneath setae. Scutellum: Smooth, triangular, about 1.5X wider than long. Elytra: As wide as pronotum at base and widest at basal 1/3; humeral angles obtuse; sides expanded behind base to basal 1/3, then narrowed to tips which are conjointly rounded; lateral margins nearly linear, and when viewed from side are slightly undulate from base to apex; each elytron with shallow, oval depression at base, and deeper, broader depression behind humerus along lateral margin to middle; visible surface vaguely punctate, punctures in rows. Venter: Hypomeron with strong, narrow antennal groove internal to pronotal margin for 1/2 length of margin. Abdomen beneath sparsely ocellate punctate, clothed with short, inconspicuous setae; intervals faintly shagreened; last ventrite broadly truncate at apex. Prosternum broadly, shallowly emarginate in front; prosternal process broad, sides narrowing slightly between coxal cavities and rounded-truncate at apex. Genitalia: As in Fig. 5. Type Material. Holotype: HONDURAS: Cor., 12 mi N La Lima, 23.07.1974, C. W. & L. O’ Brien & Marshall (FSCA). Paratypes: COSTA RICA: Guan [acaste Prov.]., 3 km SE R. Naranjo, 08- 12.06.1993, F. D. Parker (EMUS). PANAMA: Bocas d. T. Pr., 1 km S Almirante, 09°17′ N 82°25′ W, 04.07.1974, H. Stockwell (USNM). Etymology. This species is also named in honor of C. L. Bellamy. Discussion. All specimens appear to be males. The specimens from Costa Rica and Panama are 2.95 and 2.90 mm in length, respectively. Setae on the elytra of the Costa Rican specimen are pale gold in coloration, and the elytral surface beneath them has faint golden reflections.
