Abstract

13. Theognete thibodeaui Anderson, new species (Figures 60, 65, 69) Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 4.10mm. Width, male, 2.08mm. As for T. caviventris except ventrite 5 with subbasal pair of punctures and with median area excavate (as in T. denticulata). Aedeagus as in Fig. 65. Comments. This species is so far known from a single male and exhibits characters intermediate between those of T. caviventris and T. denticulata. The male genitalia are similar to those of T. caviventris but distinct. Geographical distribution. México (Veracruz). Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest leaf and log litter at an elevation of 975m. Derivation of specific name. Through their support of the Nature Discovery Fund at the Canadian Museum of Nature, this species is named after Mathieu Thibodeau of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, as a gift from the Lalanne family. Material examined. 1♂ (MCZC). Holotype ♂ (MCZC): MÉXICO: Veracruz. Canyon Rio Metlac, near Fortín, 3200ft, VII-28–VIII-I-1973 / A. Newton collector / leaf and log litter / HOLOTYPE ♂ Theognete thibodeaui sp. nov. R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. gaia.
