Originally Included species: Musca meridiana Linnaeus, 1758; Musca mystacea Linnaeus, 1758 (with Syrphus apiara Gmelin, 1790, Musca bombylius De Geer, 1776, Syrphus apiformis De Geer, 1776, and Musca bombyloides Sulzer, 1776 in synonymy). Family: Muscidae. Current status: Valid genus [teste Pont (1986: 84)]. Remarks: Previous catalogs (e.g., Pont, 1986: 84; Sabrosky, 1999: 193) have given the typification for this genus-group name as Mesembrina meridiana Meigen, 1826, by subsequent designation of Westwood (1840: 141).
