Rhotana brendelli Zelazny & Webb 2011, sp. nov.

Abstract

Rhotana brendelli Zelazny, sp. nov. (Figs. 66, 241) Description. Forewings 1.8 times longer than wide, length 3.9–4.4 mm. Colour uniformly red-brown. Forewings uniformly infuscated, slightly darker around apical cross-veins between Cu, Cu1, Ms1a, and Ms1b, veins red. Hindwings lightly infuscated, veins red. Facial carinae contiguous at bases; subantennal processes and lateral carinae of pronotum well developed; rostrum surpassing posttrochanter. Forewings with apical part of Sc nearly straight; Sc+R fork slightly before middle of wing; Ms1 branched near tip of basal median cell. Pygofer of male genitalia slightly produced at the sides. Genital styles rounded, proximal dorsal process short, slender, distal dorsal process elongated. Aedeagus with apical portion flat, bearing on the left side a finger-like, slightly curved process. Etymology. The species is named for the collector and ' brendelli ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case. Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.4 mm), INDONESIA: SULAWESI; labels: 1) SULAWESI TENGAH / Nr. Marowali / Ranu River Area / 27.i.–20.iv.1980 2) At / light 3) M.J.D. Brendell / B.M.1980-280 (BMNH). Paratype. same data as holotype, 1 ♀ (fw. 3.9) (BMNH). Distribution. Central Sulawesi (Indonesia). Diagnosis. Rhotana brendelli is similar in coloration to R. miles sp. nov. from Borneo. However, the structure of the head, the forewing venation, and the male genitalia suggest more a relationship to R. pellax Fennah from Samoa, R. marmorata Zelazny from the Philippines, and R. papuensis sp. nov. from New Guinea.
