Abstract

Das Gemälde Der Mönch am Meer von Caspar David Friedrich gehört zu den berühmtesten Werken der Sammlungen der Alten Nationalgalerie Berlin. Zwischen 2013 und 2016 wurde es umfassend restauriert und im Zuge dessen verschiedene Aspekte der Maltechnik und der Werkgenese eingehend erforscht. Mit Hilfe einer Virtual Reality-Installation, die vom 05.04.-30.06.2019 in der Alten Nationalgalerie aufgebaut und inszeniert wurde, sollte es BesucherInnen ermöglicht werden, in das Werk einzutauchen und in zweifacher Hinsicht zu verstehen: einerseits hinsichtlich der Szenerie, andererseits hinsichtlich des Malprozesses und der Grundbegriffe der Romantik im Œuvre Friedrichs. Das Teilprojekt Visitor Journeys neu gedacht der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin hat die Installation mit einer umfassenden Rezeptionsforschung begleitet. Ziel der Untersuchung war es, vertiefende Erkenntnisse hinsichtlich der Wirkung und der Rezeption digitaler Technologien sowie dem damit möglichst einhergehenden und erwünschten Mehrwert für den zielgruppenspezifischen Einsatz digitaler Technologien in Museen zu gewinnen.
