Holcostethus macdonaldi Rider & Rolston, 1995 Distribution: Canada: AB, BC (Scudder 1986, Henry & Froeschner 1992, Maw et al. 2000), MB, NB (Walker 1872), NT (Maw et al. 2000), ON, QC, SK. United States: CO, IA, IL, MI, MN (Koch et al. 2014), MT, ND (Rider 2012), SD, UT (Knowlton & Harmston 1940). Comments: Most records of this species are under the specific epithet piceus Dallas, either in Peribalus or Holcostethus, and this is the name it was catalogued under by Froeschner (1988). Rider & Rolston (1995) showed that Dallas’ name was preoccupied and proposed Holcostethus macdonaldi as a replacement name.
