Desarrollo sostenible: Crítica al modelo de civilización occidental

Abstract

El artículo tiene por objetivo analizar el discurso del desarrollo sostenible en contraposición al propuesto por la modernidad eurocéntrica. Para ello, el trabajo aborda cuatro aspectos fundamentales: 1. Presenta las características más relevantes de la modernidad occidental, las cuales tiene claras connotaciones imperiales, coloniales, xenofóbicas y excluyentes, que manifiestan la intención de erigir una civilización monolítica, monocultural, basada en la omnipotencia de la razón. 2. Señala cómo el capitalismo y el antropocentrismo contribuyen a la expansión del modelo civilizatorio occidental, teniendo graves consecuencias en el deterioro de la vida en el planeta. 3. Muestra que, ante el avance acelerado de la occidentalización y el deterioro planetario, se da pie al discurso del desarrollo sostenible, sustentado en los documentos de la World Conservation Union (1980), el Informe Brundtland (CMMAD, 1987), la Cumbre de la Tierra en Río de Janeiro (1992), la Cumbre Mundial en Johannesburgo (2002), entre otros, los cuales tienen claras connotaciones biocéntricas y ecológicas, dando reconocimiento al valor intrínseco de la naturaleza, negado por el antropocentrismo moderno. 4. Por último, plantea la necesidad de descolonizar el desarrollo sostenible, reconocer las voces silenciadas y olvidadas por la modernidad, dar apertura al diálogo de saberes, al reconocimiento de la espiritualidad y la memoria ancestral , como caminos necesarios para avanzar hacia la construcción de un mundo otro y de imaginarios distintos. El artículo se desarrolla a través de la investigación documental; el mismo no pretende ser conclusivo, sino servir de reflexión a esta ya amplia discusión.
