Neoperla hainanensis Yang & Yang 1995

Abstract

Neoperla hainanensis Yang & Yang, 1995 (Fig. 6) Neoperla hainanensis Yang & Yang, 1995: 224; Du, Sivec & He, 1999: 62; Chen & Du, 2016: 244; Yang & Li, 2018: 40; Mo, Liu, Li & Shi, 2020: 375. Supplementary description (Fig. 6). Tergum 6 with a posteromedial patch of sensilla basiconica. Aedeagal tube strongly sclerotized, slightly curved ventrad, dorsally with spinules, and ventrally with a pair of short subapical nipple shaped lobes (Figs. 6c–6d). Aedeagal sac short, about 0.25X tube length, membranous, curved ventrally, and gradually tapering to a blunt tip; apical half covered by dense spinules (Figs. 6c–6d). Material examined. 1 male (CAU), China: Hainan Province, Ledong Li Autonomous County, Jianfengling Mountain, 18.7528 N, 109.1763 E. 800 m, 2013.IV.12, Sun & Zhang. Distribution. China (Hainan Province). Remarks. The aedeagal sac of Neoperla hainanensis Yang & Yang, 1995 was not everted and described in the original description. The head pattern, the dorsal terminalia, and the aedeagal tube of this single male specimen agree well with figures provided by Yang & Yang (1995). But our male specimen has a patch of sensilla basiconica on tergum 6 posteromedially, which is thought to be intraspecific variation. We provide additional illustrations to aid in the recognition of this southern China species.
