ABSTRACT Antibiotics are one of the most effective ways to treat bacterial infections. However, they have been prescribed so many times and for so long allowing the emergence of resistant bacterial strains to some antibiotics. This is considered by the World Health Organization to be one of the greatest threats to health, because infections resulting from resistance kill more than 700,000 people each year in the world. In Israel, researchers and entrepreneurs are approaching the problem from different perspectives. Here we present nine developments that appear to be promising.
