Abstract

POLARIS is a pilot project of a technical and educational platform to collect field data in order to enhance knowledge and protection of the marine environment. This platform, developed on the marine area of ‘Aix-Marseille Provence Métropole’, initiates a new dynamic bringing local stakeholders together around common objectives. Simplified scientific protocols were proposed to volunteer divers who contributed to the tests phase during June and July 2016. Educational supports guided divers in the protocols to realize and proposed a training in environmental observation through many dives. An equivalent repartition were established between two research programs by contributing to the input of databases. The results of this study show the collaborative dimension of this platform which was incorporated with 60 % of scuba diving activities organised by Septentrion Environnement. Similarly, 60% of the participants contributed over to 50% taking account of the whole of their dives during the test period. 30% of them came diving only to obtain field data through POLARIS. An annual estimate forecasts that 500 dives could be carried out with Septentrion Environnement linked to POLARIS.
