Rhysida cuprea Kraepelin 1903

Abstract

116. Rhysida cuprea Kraepelin, 1903 Kraepelin 1903: 154 (as Rhysida cuprea n. sp.) Type locality and specimens. [12 specimens of the Museum Paris, unfortunately in a bad condition, from the southern Himalayan slope in Bhutan are available. There should be no doubt about the correctness of the locality, beause I already saw a specimen, although legless, from the same locality.]. Dimensions. Länge bis [length up to] 40 mm. Type material. Syntypes 3 (ZMH-A0000655, ZMH-A0009350-9351). BHUTAN: Himalayas [ca. 27°28’N, 89°38’E for Thimphu]. No additional data. Preservation. 1 jar: Label. Rhysida cuprea Krpln ex typis Bhutan Himalaya Mus. Paris C: 2.X.03. (Kraepelin handwriting). Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 70, No. 72. Paratypes 3. Taxonomic remarks: Lewis (2001) noted several morphological differences between specimens he had seen from Mozambique (type locality of R. afra) and Nepal but considered them all one species despite the major geographical distance. Collection remarks. The specimens originate from the MNHN collections and 9 additional syntypes should be present there since the original publication lists 12 specimens. Current systematic position. Rhysida afra (Peters, 1855); synonymized by Lewis (2001: 47).
