Leopoldius erostratus Rondani, 1843 ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1843d: 35. TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus sub-apenninis ditionis Parmensis [Parmese sub-Apennine hills (Italy)]”. TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (MZUF: Box 8): Brachyglossum [sic!] Rnd. / erostratum [sic!] Rnd., 1 ♂ / 375; 2 ♂♂, 1 ♀, syntypes (one male and the female pinned together) (MZUF: Box 8): Brachyglossum [sic!] Rnd. / erostratum [sic!] Rnd. ♀ / 375; 1 ♂, syntype (MZUF: Box B): Brachyglossum [sic!] R. erostratum [sic!] R., 133, ♂, Apenn. [= Apennines] / 393 133; 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable) (MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Brachiglossum Rnd. erostratum R. Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 4, posiz. E-3 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci (PI) ex collezione Rondani; 1 ♀, syntype (MZUB: Box 323): Leopoldius erostratum [sic!] Rond., ex a. parmensi / erostratum [sic!] Rndn, ♀, Parma. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Leopoldius signatus (Wiedemann in Meigen, 1824) (Chvála & Smith 1988: 247, Rivosecchi & Scaramozzino 1995: 2, Stuke 2017: 59). REMARKS: Rondani (1843d: 35) described both sexes of Leopoldius erostratus without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length. Stuke (2017: 59) reported the syntype series of six specimens in the MZUF as being comprised of five males and one female. We found six syntypes in the MZUF, one syntype in the MSNC and one syntype in the MZUB.
