Abstract

Dans cet article, I outline a common approach and problem defined between Lacan and Foucault, regarding the treatment given to freedom. While both authors can be identified as structuralists, and hence the commonality of supposing a determinism that would leave no room for the subject 's decision, I propose that the problem from a materialist perspective is more complex than it seems and requires understanding how both authors worked the constitution of the subject within determinations that exceed it but do not nullify it at all. Defining desire in the Spinozian sense is key to this.
