The article presents an approach to the notion of subject within modern philosophy. The text of the "Phenomenology of Spirit" has been taken on the occasion of the two hundredth anniversary of its publication. It explores three thematic focuses: idealist reason as the modern subject, the Hegelian assertion that substance is to be understood as subject, and the central idea of his philosophy that the subject becomes inter-subjective or spirit.
