Responsible approach to the development of terminology in plant quarantine and protection, agriculture and forestry into Russian improves the prestige of Russian in these fields and effective implementation of phytosanitary measures in Russia and countries widely using Russian language. Promotion of correct usage of Russian in the field of plant quarantine and protection is likely to become «the soft power» of Russia and enhance its future social welfare. The Glossary of phytosanitary terms (ISPM 5) is developed and maintained in the framework of the International Plant Protection Convention which harmonises the use of phytosanitary terminology. This international standard is useful in preparing formal statutory documents which are characterised by harmonized and consistent terminology.
