Abstract

Das Simple Image Presentation Interface (SIPI) ist eine Software, die vom Data & Service Center for the Humanities (DaSCH) entwickelt wurde und sich um die Speicherung, Konvertierung und Bereitstellung von Bild-, Audio- und Videodateien sowie anderen Dokumenten wie PDF-Dateien kümmert. SIPI wurde für Archive, Bibliotheken und andere Institutionen entwickelt, die qualitativ hochwertige Bilder aufbewahren und gleichzeitig online verfügbar machen müssen. SIPI implementiert das International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) Image API 3.0, das die Interoperabilität zwischen verschiedenen Bild-Repositorien unterstützen soll. SIPI konvertiert effizient und verlustfrei zwischen Bildformaten, wobei die in den Bilddateien enthaltenen Metadaten erhalten bleiben. Wenn Bilder im JPEG-2000-Format gespeichert sind, kann SIPI sie „on the fly“ in Formate konvertieren, die üblicherweise im Internet verwendet werden. SIPI kann auch von der Kommandozeile aus verwendet werden, um Bilder in/aus TIFF-, JPEG 2000-, JPEG- und PNG-Formaten zu konvertieren. Dieses Beispiel zeigt eine Möglichkeit und gleichzeitig die Relevanz von FAIRren digitalen Bildern. SIPI ist in C++ entwickelt und läuft auf Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS) und macOS.
