Abstract

Cada año se diagnostican aproximadamente 130 nuevos casos de cáncer por millón de niños. Los tumores abdominales en la edad pediátrica representan el 20% de los casos de cáncer a estas edades. Los tumores abdominales más frecuentes son el neuroblastoma, el tumor de Wilms o nefroblastoma y el linfoma no hodgkin. Deben ser sospechados ante la presencia de manifestaciones clínicas específicas e inespecíficas .El signo más relevante es la masa abdominal palpable en el abdomen, localizado en diferentes regiones en dependencia del órgano afectado y el tipo de tumor. Los tumores abdominales en edad pediátrica se consideran una urgencia relativa por su rápido crecimiento y diseminación. Frecuentemente pasan desapercibidos y se diagnostican tardíamente, con un pronóstico desfavorable para los pacientes.Se trazó como objetivo caracterizar el comportamiento actual de los tumores abdominales más frecuentes en la edad pediátrica, para ello se consultaron diversas bibliografías nacionales y extranjeras y se obtuvo como resultado que el pronóstico y la sobrevida de estos pacientes ha mejorado sustancialmente en los últimos años debido al diagnóstico oportuno, a la atención multidisciplinaria y al descubrimiento y aplicación de nuevos tratamientos.
