Vaccinium myrtillus is a species of little shrub plant associated with atlantic climate in Europe, by this reason, in the south of Europe, its populations are restricted to the higher mountains or that under maritime influence. In Portugal, populations of European blueberry are located in northern mountain systems and some other isolated mountains like "Serra da Estrela". Understand the composition of the wild blueberry population allows us to design new biofertilizers for the blueberry crop in Iberian Peninsula.
