Abstract

Los “Flancos Andinos” son espacios constituidos por sistemas de montañas que se encuentran en la parte occidental y oriental de las cordilleras alto andinas. Según Javier Pulgar Vidal y su teoría de las 8 regiones del Perú, los flancos orientales son denominados como Selva Alta o Rupa Rupa, siendo un espacio geográfico que se encuentra entre la cordillera altoandina y la selva baja u Omagua.Además, reciben otros nombres como: Ceja de Selva, Bosques de Neblina, Montaña Alta, Ecosistemas de Transición, entre otros. Los Flancos Andinos se caracterizan por pisos altitudinales y algunas exclusivas zonas de vida que contemplan ecosistemas diversos y características propias que van cambiando paulatinamente conforme van acercándose hacia la selva baja o el llano amazónico; a esto se suma la constante interacción de los usos y costumbres de la gente que van cambiando el paisaje cultural con el transcurrir del tiempo. La Universidad Nacional Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza de Amazonas-Perú, a través del Instituto de Investigación para el Desarrollo Sustentable de Ceja de Selva (INDES CES) y la Universidad de Georgia USA, vienen trabajando de manera coordinada en el desarrollo de investigaciones en los ecosistemas frágiles de Ceja de Selva, lo cual ha conllevado a realizar varias publicaciones de manera conjunta. Es un honor hacer la presentación de éste libro, que es el fruto del esfuerzo de dos grandes y renombrados investigadores que por largos años vienen investigando a los bosques de montaña, ellos son los profesores Fausto Sarmiento y Elena V. Sarmiento, a quienes tuvimos la oportunidad de tenerlos en nuestra universidad, y ha permitido que en la actualidad se vengan desarrollando y gestando muchos proyectos de investigación; estamos seguros que estos trabajos están fortaleciendo los lazos institucionales, académicos e investigativos entre las dos instituciones académicas. Espero que este trabajo sea una herramienta para que los lectores enriquezcan sus conocimientos e incentive a desarrollar investigaciones científicas en temas relacionados con cambio climático y biodiversidad en los paisajes socio-ecológicos de los flancos andinos.
