This is a 1968 manuscript version of a book which was published in 1973 (Stockwell, Robert P & Schachter, Paul & Partee, Barbara Hall. 1973. 'The major syntactic structures of English. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston) and which was the first major treatment of English syntax from a transformational perspective. The manuscript contains two chapters that did not make it into the published book.
