Chronik der Schule Demker 1877 bis 1945 / Chronicle of the Demker School 1877 to 1945

Abstract

The school chronicle of the village of Demker was kept between 1877 and 1945 by various teachers of the village. It was founded by Karl August Dettmer, who began the chronicle with a general description of the school community, the patronage, the teachers and the school inspection, based on regulations of the Royal Prussian Ministry of Education and Medical Affairs. In a second part, he also reported in more detail on the actual school lessons and school attendance as well as modalities of pupil admissions, transfers and dismissals. Finally, he dealt with aspects of the school building and the financing of teaching and teachers. In this spirit, other teachers (Friedrich Gustav Pilz, Heinrich Friedrich Ernst Gose, Ernst Bierotte) continued the school chronicle after his departure in 1882. In the process, the actual school affairs were repeatedly used as an occasion to report on general events in the village. Central to this was the description of the victims of the First and Second World Wars. In addition, cultural aspects (singing festivals, gymnastics movement), other crises (major fire, cold spell during the fruit blossom) and cultural events also played a role.
