Law: Ḥanafite. This manuscript is now IO Islamic 778 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Otto Loth, A Catalogue of the Arabic Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, (volume 1), no. 219 here with further notations and hyperlinks]. 219. 778. Size 83/4 in. by 51/2 in.; foll. 539. Twenty-seven lines in a page. The first part of a Commentary on the Hidâyah, entitled العنایة, by Muḥammad b. Maḥmûd b. Aḥmad Ḥanafî1 (Akmal al-dîn BÂBARTÎ, d. A.H. 786). Cf. Ḥ. Kh. vi. 485; Cat. St. Petersb. 40; and Flügel, Class. 334 sq. The work was printed at Calcutta, A.H. 1247, in four vols. This is also a commentary by قوله. The present volume comprises the first half of the Hidâyah, or the first two volumes of the aforesaid edition, and concludes: نجز الجزو الثانی من العنایة فی شرح الهدایة بحمدالله.. و یتلوه الجزو الثالث کتاب البیوع; but the beginning of the second جزء is not marked. Inelegantly written; the first two leaves restored by a more modern hand. Owing to the bad quality of the ink, the leaves had stuck together, and often could not be separated without injuring the writing. This MS. was once a وقف. [Hastings.] 1 Thus the author names himself in the preface.
