Abstract

Euseius transvaalensis (Van der Merwe & Ryke) (Fig. 40) Amblyseius (Typhlodromalus) transvaalensis Van der Merwe & Ryke, 1964: 286. FEMALE (Specimens measured – South Africa: 4). Dorsum – Dorsal shield reticulated antero laterally, 343­378 long and 236­258 wide. Setae j1 47­50, j3 52­57, j4 41­50, j5 47­55, j6 60­69, J2 66­72, J5 6, z2 44­47, z4 67­72, z5 28­38, Z1 67­72, Z4 60­63, Z5 76­82, s4 82­91, S2 54­63, S4 44­50, S5 44­50, r3 22­ 26, R1 16­25. Dorsal setae very long, except J5, and smooth, except Z5 which are serrate. Peritreme – Reaching lateral to setae j1. Venter – All ventral shields smooth. Distances between ST1­ST3 59­61, ST2­ST2 66­ 69, ST5­ST5 79­88.Two pairs of metapodal shield present. Ventrianal shield 107­120 long, 69­76 wide at ZV2 level and 81­85 wide at anus level. Chelicera – Movable digit 25 long, with one tooth; fixed digit 25 long with 6 teeth. Spermatheca – Calyx 13­16 long, bulged, but narrowing and suddenly flaring distally. Legs – All macrosetae sharp­tipped. Sge II 28­33, Sge III 38­47, Sge IV 66­76, Sti III 35­38, Sti IV 47­54, St IV 82­88; chaetotaxy of genu II 2­2/0, 2/0­1, genu III 1­2/1,2/0­1. MALE (Specimens measured – South Africa: 2). Dorsum – Dorsal shield 271­284 long and 195­217 wide. Setae j1 38­41, j3 44, j4 32­ 35, j5 35, j6 46­47, J2 44­47, J5 5­6, z2 35­38, z4 50­54, z5 22­28, Z1 44­47, Z4 41­44, Z5 57­60, s4 60­63, S2 33­41, S4 32, S5 32­35, r3 19­22, R1 16­19. Peritreme – Reaching level of setae z4. Venter – Ventrianal shield 107­113 long, 151­164 wide at anterior corners. Chelicera – Shaft of spermatodactyl 25 long. Legs – Sge II 25, Sge III 28­32, Sge IV 42­47, Sti III 28­32, Sti IV 38­44, St 63 SPECIMENS EXAMINED: South Africa: Magoebaskloof, Northern Province, on Camelia sinensis, 26­V­1983, E. A.
