Euseius rubicolus

Abstract

Euseius rubicolus (Van der Merwe & Ryke) (Fig. 36) Amblyseius (Typhlodromalus) rubicolus Van der Merwe & Ryke, 1964: 266 Amblyseius (Typhlodromalus) addoensis Van der Merwe & Ryke, 1964: 275 (synonymy according to McMurtry 1980) Amblyseius (Amblyseius) addoensis, Ueckermann & Loots, 1988: 97 Amblyseius (Typhlodromalus) anneckei van der Merwe & Ryke, 1964: 268 (synonymy according to McMurtry 1980) Amblyseius (Typhlodromalus) capensis Van der Merwe & Ryke, 1964: 281 (synonymy according to McMurtry 1980) Amblyseius (Typhlodromalus) raptor Van der Merwe & Ryke, 1964: 270 (synonymy according to McMurtry 1980) Amblyseius (Typhlodromalus) undulatus Van der Merwe & Ryke, 1964: 278 (synonymy according to McMurtry 1980) FEMALE (Specimens measured – South Africa: 2). Dorsum Dorsal shield with few lateral striae on anterior half and scattered striae over posterior half, often faint, 376387 long and 245248 wide. Setae j1 3540, j3 4042, j4 8 10, j5 10, j6 13, J2 1416, J5 6, z2 13, z4 2730, z5 810, Z1 1416, Z4 16, Z5 5462, s4 64 66, S2 18, S4 19, S5 1619, r3 1416, R1 1011. Dorsal setae smooth, except Z5, which are serrate. Peritreme Reaching level of j3. Venter All ventral shields smooth. Distances between ST1ST3 66, ST2ST2 72 and ST5ST5 8291. A single pair of metapodal shields. Ventrianal shield 115131 long, 6770 wide at ZV2 level and 7778 wide at anus level. Chelicera Movable digit 24 long, with 1 tooth; fixed digit 25 long, with 5 teeth. Spermatheca Calyx 1619 long, flaring distally and slightly bulged near atrium, which is small. Legs Macrosetae sharptipped: SgeI 21, SgeII 2124, SgeIII 3032, StiIII 2629, SgeIV 5358, StiIV 4043, StIV 5661. MALE (Specimens measured – South Africa: 1). Dorsum Dorsal shield 282 long. Setae j1 37, j3 43, j4 and j5 10, j6 11, J2 13, J5 5, z2 14, z4 34, z5 10, Z1 14, Z5 51, s4 54, S2 19, S4 and S5 21, r3 16, R1 10. Peritreme Reaching level between j1 and j3. Venter Ventrianal shield 125 long, 173 wide at anterior corners. Chelicera Shaft of spermatodactyl 29 long. Legs – Macrosetae sharptipped: SgeII 19, SgeIII 24, SgeIV 45, StiIV 38, StIV 51. REMARKS: McMurtry (1980) proposed the synonymy indicated for this species based on hybridization tests conducted in laboratory. Because of page priority, it is understood that the correct procedure is to retain the specific name rubicolus rather than addoensis, used by McMurtry. SPECIMENS EXAMINED: South Africa: Addo Navorsing Stasie, on Atriplex muelleri, 5XII1977, M.K.P. Meyer; Addo Navorsing Stasie, on Citrus sinensis, 5XII 1977, M.K.P. Meyer.
