REPORT DEL BIOBLITZ SUI POGGI DI PRATA (GROSSETO)

Abstract

A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on looking for and identifying as many species as possible in a given area within 24 hours. The main aim of a BioBlitz is to obtain an overall count of the organisms that live in a place, involving scientists and interested citizens (families, children, students). The participants acquire skills and knowledge in the ecological field, and develop a stronger connection with the environment around them. A BioBlitz aims to promote and improve knowledge of local natural habitats by the general public, facilitating the acceptance of biodiversity conservation and management campaigns. This report describes the results of the Bioblitz organised at the Natura 2000 and Site of Regional Importance “Poggi di Prata”, covering approximately 1060 hectares, located within a hilly rural landscape (478-903 m a.s.l.) in the Tuscany region, Italy.
