Paniscus ferrugineus Cameron 1889

Authors: Broad, Gavin R.;

Paniscus ferrugineus Cameron 1889

Abstract

17. Paniscus ferrugineus Cameron 1889 (Figs 15–17) Current combination. junior synonym of Netelia (Toxochiloides) latro (Holmgren 1868) (Ichneumonidae: Tryphoninae) (Kaur & Jonathan 1979). Material examined. Paniscus ferrugineus Cameron 1889 ♀ lectotype, here designated, NHMUK, India, Meghalaya, Khasi Hills: ‘Type’; ‘Lectotype’; ‘Khasia Hills.’; ‘Cameron coll. 99-200.’; ‘ Paniscus ferrugineus Cam. Type Khasia’; ‘Homotype Lectotype V.K. Gupta 1967’; ‘ Paniscus ferrugineus Cam. 1889 Lectotype ♀ Det. G. Broad 2020’; ‘B.M.Type Hym. 3b.1523’; ‘ NHMUK 010635206’; ♀ paralectotype: NHMUK, India, Meghalaya, Khasi Hills: ‘Type’; ‘Paralectotype’; ‘ Paniscus ferrugineus Cam. Type Khasia’; ‘P. Cameron Coll. 1914-110.’; ‘ Netelia (Netelia) sp. ♀ Det. G. Broad 2014’; ‘ Paniscus ferrugineus Cam. 1889 Paralectotype ♀ Det. G. Broad 2020’; ‘B.M.Type Hym. 3b.1523’; ‘ NHMUK 010635207’. Comments. Synomymised with Netelia (Toxochiloides) latro (Holmgren 1868) by Kaur & Jonathan (1979), the type series of Paniscus ferrugineus consists of two syntypes. V.K. Gupta had labelled one as a lectotype in 1967 but this designation was not published. This specimen was referred to as a homotype (i.e., a specimen compared with a primary type) by Kaur & Jonathan (1979). As the syntypes belong to clearly different species in different subgenera, it is necessary to designate a lectotype. Gupta’s choice corresponds with the specimen that does belong to the subgenus Toxochiloides Tolkanitz, and seems to be conspecific with N. latro, so this specimen (NHMUK010635206; Figs 15, 16) is designated the lectotype. The other syntype (NHMUK010635207; Fig. 17) is a female of an undetermined species of the subgenus Netelia Gray.
